THE HAUNTING SEASON
Imaginative visions by artists from Sally Dark Rides

Sally Dark Rides is a world-wide leader in the conception, design and production of dark ride attractions which are realized by a team of talented, visionary and creative people. And a few of those team members are exhibiting some of their personal art efforts in a show titled “The Haunting Season” at a favorite local art supply store in Jacksonville, Florida, the home of Sally Dark Rides.

Reddi-Arts opened its doors in 1942 in a shop in the San Marco area of Jax, but recently moved across the St Johns River to the Springfield historic district just north of downtown.  The former FW Woolworth store is now packed wall-to-wall with art supplies, unique gifts,  greeting cards and a framing shop. There is also a classroom where art lessons are frequently taught. And at the rear of the store is a long hallway where the Sally artists are displaying their decidedly creepy & colorful works of art.

Participating Sally artists are:  Russell Hall – Sculpt & Mold supervisor; Rich Hill - Creative Director; Drew Edward Hunter - VP Creative Design; Keith Jones - Designer; Josh Rudloff – Media Design Manager; and Jason Wright – Scenic Artist. Each is displaying art which brings to mind a fantastic aspect of this exciting time of the year leading up to Halloween – otherwise known as the haunting season.

All of the works in the exhibit will chill and thrill guests with imaginative visions of malevolent scarecrows, mischievous jack o’ lanterns, menacing beings and other delightfully macabre imagery. And another interesting aspect to the exhibit is the wide variance of styles on display.

The presenting artists are showing many diverse works featuring fascinatingly distinct looks and techniques including ink, pencil, gouache, acrylic, 3-D printing and mixed media. Several of the artists have created artfully customized frames as well.

In addition to the exhibit, the front display window of Reddi-Arts showcases three 6’ tall profiled flats depicting very decorative Halloween-esque characters designed and painted by Hunter (first image). Each is highlighted in UV paint, so with black light illumination at night, the ghoulish trio pops out of the darkness to command the attention of the mortals who pass by.

It’s a fun art show -- a perfect way to celebrate the advent of Autumn and the creepy imagery it inspires!
